Two articles by Irit Felsen published in NJ Jewish News on Jan. 13/2016

The January 13, 2016 edition of the New Jersey Jewish News includes two pieces by me. The first can be viewed at http://njjewishnews.com/article/29569/survivor-sees-his-life-and-message-on-film#.VpmkSFJQA2c, and is about the premier showing of the film “Be An Upstander, The Fred Heyman Story” which took place at the JCC in MetroWest a couple of weeks ago.

Fred is a NJ resident and survivor of the Holocaust. He has been deeply involved in volunteer educational activities with young people, carrying the message “Be an upstander, not a bystander” in his involvement with high school students across NJ to promote personal resilience and social responsibility.

The second piece, entitled “Living Proof of the Capacity to Heal”, can be viewed at http://njjewishnews.com/article/29569/survivor-sees-his-life-and-message-on-film#sidebar1, It discusses the value of a personal relationship with an older adult, such as Fred, who has managed to adjust well despite enduring tremendous trauma, for the enhancement of personal resiliency and the development of hope and activism, especially for youth who experience hardship.
