A New Book: A Mother, a Daughter, and the Healing Power of the Relationship Between a Holocaust Survivor and Her Psychotherapist

My friend from Israel, Dr. Talila Kosh-Zohar, informed me of the recent publication of the English translation of her book, “Marta’s Notebooks”. I first read the book in Hebrew, and felt it was imperative that it will be translated into English, made available to 2G’s and 3G’s who don’t read Hebrew. It is one the books that will be so important for those who will not have the opportunity to ever personally know a survivor.

The book incorporates the authentic diary notebooks of Dr. Kosh-Zohar’s mother, Marta, a Holocaust survivor and a remarkably talented writer, who describes in deeply moving prose her life, and also the profoundly healing relationship she had with an unusually sensitive and empathic psychiatrist who treated her over many years. The book includes also parts added by Dr. Kosh-Zohar, told from the perspective of the young adult daughter who is witness to her mother’s unique strengths as well as to her struggles.

I invited Dr. Kosh-Zohar and the Jewish-Swedish author Goran Rosenberg (“A Brief Stop on the Road to Auschwitz”) for a conversation which was hosted by the Museum of Jewish Heritage- A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, which you can view by clicking on the image below.

This book is a wonderful read, and a wonderful record of what the therapeutic relationship with a trauma survivor can mean. I am so happy that the book is now available also in English, and I recommend it whole-heartedly! The book can be purchased by following this link.
