More info

The NGO Committee on Mental Health In Consultative Relationship to the United Nations is an organization strongly committed to raising public consciousness regarding the importance of mental health as a priority issue. The Committee on Mental Health engages in activities that promote, educate, facilitate and support actions in the international arena and within the scope of the United Nations interests and responsibilities. (More information can be found by clicking on the image below.)

I serve as Chair of the Trauma Work Group, which is part of the Committee on Mental Health. The Trauma Work Group focuses specifically on promoting education and raising consciousness to the impact of trauma and traumatic stress on the direct survivors, as well as the ripple effects on family members and loved ones,  as well as the long-reaching inter-generational effects of historical trauma in society at large.

This year, our annual program will take place on Thursday, February 19 and will take place over Zoom. The program will be focused on loss of a family member through suicide, one of the most complex and tragic types of loss. It is important to raise awareness of suicide risk, of the resources available to individuals and families for suicide prevention, and also of the support of those left behind after the suicide of a loved one.

We are still finalizing the details of the program, but please put it on your calendar and make sure to join us for a profoundly moving presentation by Adele Raemer, who lost her husband to suicide 17 years ago. Adele is also a survivor of the October 7 massacre in Kibbutz Nirim.

We will send another notice with final program details closer to the date.
