Attending the Conference of the International Association of Psychoanalytic Self Psychology (IAPSP)

This week I will be going to participate in the 42nd Annual IAPSP International Conference, which will be held in Vancouver, Canada, from Thursday, October 17 to Sunday, October 20, 2019.

The general focus of the conference this year will be on “Engaging Difference and Sameness: Pathways to Empathic Dialogue”, perhaps the most appropriate topic to focus on these days in America, as tensions around differences in politics, culture, history, race, gender, class, and sexual orientation demand attention and require that we all find a way to dialogue about our differences in mutually respectful ways.

As psychologists, mental health professionals and individual citizens, we must keep the hope that such empathic understanding and communication can bring some further improvement to many of the conflicts we are experiencing in our troubled world these days.
