Borderline – The Film

Rebbie Ratner directed a documentary about a woman who received the diagnosis of Boderline Personality Disorder (BPD). This is a unique documentary which I had the opportunity to view at its showing in NYC yesterday, where both Rebbie and the protagonist of her film, Regina, were present.

The women created a piercingly intimate film, documenting the interpersonal hyper-sensitivities and emotional volatility, as well as capturing the charm and vulnerability of Regina, who is struggling to understand what the diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder means in terms of the existential problems she has been suffering from, and what the diagnosis, and treatment for the disorder, might mean in terms of hope for a meaningful life.

The cinematography involves the camera coming very close-up to Regina, complemented by the felt presence of the director and the relationship between the two women, and creates a captivating, uniquely honest experience.

This is a must-see film for anyone who wishes to understand the complexities of BPD and an uplifting one, in many ways. More information can be found on the film’s website at http://borderlinethefilm.com/.
