On Sunday January 27th, 2020, I will have the honor of participating in an event at The Wing in NYC. The Wing is a unique resource for women to become aware of, and it is my pleasure and honor to be invited by two members of this unique community to present at the event honoring International Holocaust Remembrance Day. My presentation, entitled “The Impact of Trauma Through Three Generations“, will be followed by a panel discussion, joined by Wing member Amanda Lanceter, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust. Moderated by Wing member and event co-curator, Ariel Bielsky, granddaughter of Tuvia Bielski, Commander of The Bielski Partisans. The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A session.

There has never been a time in which I felt a greater urgency about speaking of the horrific catastrophe that ravaged the families and communities of my parents, and the effects of such traumatic legacies on survivors and on generations of their descendants. There has never been a time when recognizing the dangers of hate-mongering social and political forces that made the Holocaust possible has been as relevant and as current as it seems to be these days, in America and all over the world. Antisemitism is but one form of hatred towards the “other”. I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to speak to young women from all backgrounds about the very real dangers of extreme religious, tribalist and nationalist views which seem to have reared their ugly voices in recent years.

Founded in 2016, The Wing is a growing community of women across the country and globe, with locations in various places, gathering together to work, connect, and thrive. One of the premises of this community is that when women gather, they go further together. The Wing serves as a community that fosters connections of all kinds, friendship, support circles, professional mentoring, networking, and bonding over shared experiences for women of all ages. The Wing also offers its members access to a range of events designed to promote personal and professional growth, from pitch workshops to luminary speaker series.

The International Holocaust Remembrance Day event is open to Wing members and their guests, and is the result of the initiative of Ariel Bielsky and Amanda Lanceter.
