On Tuesday April 21, at 7:00pm EDT, I will be leading a program via Zoom entitled “Jewish Caregiving Across Generations“. The program is hosted by the Museum of Jewish Heritage, A Living Memorial to the Holocaust.

Adult children of Holocaust survivors who are parents of a child with special needs often carry a unique emotional inheritance that shapes their parenting. The legacy of trauma —marked by vigilance, resilience, and a deep sensitivity to suffering— can intensify both their fears and their devotion. They may feel a heightened responsibility to protect their child from harm while also drawing on powerful intergenerational strengths and capacity for endurance. At times, echoes of their parents’ experiences can complicate and amplify their responses to stress, loss, or difference, but they can also foster profound empathy, meaning-making, and an unwavering commitment to their child’s well-being.

Two remarkable 2G parents of adult children will share their experiences, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Philosophy Eva Kittay from Stony Brook University/SUNY and Israeli-born, American-raised accomplished musician and Holocaust educator, Lea Karpman.

The registration instructions will be posted here as soon as they are available. I hope you can join us.
